"Someday, he'll take me home. Except I won't just be Oliver anymore. I'll be new and improved--Oliver plus!"
Character Name: Oliver Day
Fandom: Doctor Who (Books)
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Sexuality (if applicable): Heterosexual
Original or Anomaly?: Original
Appearance: Oliver is about six feet tall, with dark hair that is just slightly on the shaggy side and is usually left to roam free. He is thin and not very built, with soulful brown eyes that display the feelings that underlie his cheerful exterior. He also has a ready, warm smile. His only physical markings of note include several scars of varying length on his chest, back, and upper legs, which are generally covered by his clothing.
Oliver can most usually be found in T-shirts (usually plain, concert, or TV-related) and a pair of blue jeans, are well as his beloved and increasingly well-worn (but still as comfortable as ever!) trainers.
My PB for him is Christian Coulson. Young Oliver is Jake Cherry. Female Oliver is Sophia Bush. Chloe Elliot is young Portia de Rossi.
Personality:
Oliver is, more than anything, a cheerful person. He is always quick to jokes and laughter--especially when he’s upset or worried. He is also extremely idealistic--he believes that heroes aren’t only for TV shows. In his eyes, good, caring people really make a difference for others, and he wants to be a person like that.
Because of his belief in inherent goodness, Oliver is quick to trust and eager to help. He is aware that this opens him up to be tricked, but he would rather help someone who didn’t need it than turn away a person in need.
After his experiences with the Puppeteer, Oliver loses some of his idealism and begins to have more inner doubts about people and their trustworthiness. For the most part, he dismisses these worries and continues to outwardly be his cheerful, optimistic self.
Oliver thinks of other people before he thinks of himself. If people around him are happy, he is happy. If people around him are sad, well, he’ll just have to do something about that. He is always eager to offer encouragement or a shoulder to cry on, but in general, laughter is the best medicine. He sometimes gets a bit overzealous with jokes, especially in a serious situation. However, when he realizes the pain is beyond what a joke or two could help, Oliver can be a very good listener. He empathizes well with others.
On the flip side, Oliver is not good at expressing his own pain or worries. He usually bottles them up, putting on a cheerful face for the world, and allows them to fester. This can sometimes lead to emotional breakdowns, but Oliver doesn’t mind much as long as he can lose it in private. When he is extremely upset, he withdraws from others, both so that he can express his emotions and to avoid worrying other people.
Since being stranded on Gondovan, Oliver has become somewhat less open toward others. He is as social as ever, but he avoids discussing his past (outside of random jokes and references that tell very little of substance) and keeps his inner demons hidden from the public. He does confide in Annajin, especially when his memories of his time under the Puppeteer are bothering him, but he is still reluctant to speak of his past or say too much of his feelings even to her.
Because Oliver is so quick to trust, he is a very trustworthy person in return. He would go to great lengths to keep a promise. Also, he loves very deeply. He cares greatly for the parents he has left behind and, above all, for his lost love Chloe. He also cares very much for his girlfriend Annajin, although he is still uncertain of how to have a romantic relationship with her when he still feels devoted to the girl he will never see again.
Oliver is also a very physical person. He doesn’t have to know you well to be willing to give you a hug or put a comforting hand on your shoulder when you’re upset. He wishes for the same physical comfort when he’s upset himself, but he would never ask you for it.
As a former university student studying history, Oliver has a great appreciation for history and the importance of the past on the present and future. His travels with the Doctor have only made this aspect more acute. Oliver gets very excited in the presence of important historical figures or events, and he will not hesitate to show it.
Oliver is a huge fan of sci-fi, fantasy, and crime shows, and he dabbled in comics, as well. Anything about heroes and good defeating evil is right up his alley. His favorite shows when he left Earth included 24, Battlestar Galactica, and Heroes. He also enjoyed watching reality TV shows, but shh! Don’t tell anyone he said so. He has a tendency to make references to shows in real life situations. He loves to joke about how they compare. If you asked why, he’d probably say that it adds to the adventure. He wouldn’t admit that sometimes it’s his way of trying to minimize the severity of the reality. Oliver also loves rock music. His favorite band is The Killers. Since being stranded on Gondovan, his pop culture repertoire has diversified somewhat.
